INFORMATION FOR VOLUNTEERS

Thanks so much for volunteering to help out! Click the relevant link(s) or scroll down for more information!

Laminating Information

If you are new to laminating, you can find videos or tutorials online explaining the general process. It just involves letting the laminator warm up (plug in and switch on), placing the document(s) inside a laminating pouch, and feeding the pouch into the laminator.

  • Always set the Hot/Cold switch to HOT.

  • Feed the closed side of the pouch into the laminator first.

  • Push the pouch and document gently into the laminator until it begins to auto-feed.

  • Multiple small pieces can fit into one full-sized laminating pouch.

  • Use a glue stick to hold small pieces in place.

  • Please don’t cut items sent for laminating. We will take care of cutting at school.

  • If there is more than one hour’s worth of laminating, send it back for the next volunteer. We only expect you to laminate for about an hour.

  • If you run out of laminating pouches, email Cat (library@memphismontessori.org) to request more.

  • If you have any questions about the laminating project, email Cat (library@memphismontessori.org).

Paper Cutting

If you are new to using a guillotine-style paper cutter, you can find videos or tutorials online explaining the general process.

  • Often there will be special directions for cutting along with the materials. Look for those directions before starting to cut.

  • Always be careful when using and transporting the paper cutter.

  • Please limit the number of pages being cut at a time to 15 - 20 pages, depending on the weight of the paper.

  • If there is more than one hour’s worth of cutting, send it back for the next volunteer. We only expect you to laminate for about an hour.

  • If you have any questions about the paper cutting project, email Cat (library@memphismontessori.org).

MPL Returns

Cat supplements our library collection by borrowing books from the Benjamin L. Hooks branch (Central or "The Big Library") of Memphis Public Libraries. Volunteers can help by returning books to library.

  • Pick-up during the afternoon car line on Mondays.

  • Return books at the drive-through book drop located on the north side of the Benjamin L. Hooks library (3030 Poplar) or walk them in to the circulation desk. If you prefer, you can return the books at any Memphis Public Library branch. (Germantown and Collierville are not part of the Memphis Public Libraries system.)

  • Please try to return the books the same day you pick them up from Cat (or the following morning).

  • Please remember to return the empty bag Tuesday morning during drop-off.

Drop off the school's paper recycling at a Recycling Center (or put it out with your home recycling if you prefer).

  • Drop off at the Recycling Center that is most convenient for you:
